Anthony Mackie will take the title role in a Broadway revival of Shakespeare's Macbeth, opening in New York in spring 2027.
The production is a transfer of the Donmar Warehouse staging directed by Max Webster.
Rehearsals begin in February 2027, with previews starting in late March and the run ending in July 2027.
The schedule pushes principal photography for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars into mid-2027.
Marvel is holding its planned theatrical release date of December 17, 2027.
Mackie's Return to Broadway and Marvel
Mackie confirmed both commitments in an interview reported by Deadline and IGN.
"Once I finish on Broadway, I'll go to finish up all the Avengers stuff for Secret Wars," Mackie said.
The Broadway run marks his first return to the stage since his 2010 performance in A Behanding in Spokane.
He described his long-standing connection to theater, saying he started as a theater kid and that doing theater had been his passion since he was seven years old.
Mackie also highlighted the production's binaural sound design, which uses individual headphones for audience members.
"The microphones and the sound aspect of it is interesting because you in the audience can hear everything, you can hear every whisper, you can feel every emotion," he said.
He added that instead of projecting to the back of the house, the house comes to the stage.
Mackie will next appear as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, which debuts in theaters on December 18.
