England and Norway secured their places in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinals after dramatic Round of 16 victories on Sunday.

Ten-man England defeated host nation Mexico 3-2 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

Norway pulled off a 2-1 upset against Brazil at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

England's Thrilling Win

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for England with two goals in 98 seconds, giving the team a 2-0 lead by the 38th minute.

Julian Quinones responded for Mexico before halftime.

England defender Jarell Quansah received a straight red card in the 54th minute after a VAR review.

England extended its lead to 3-1 through a penalty from Harry Kane.

A subsequent VAR review led Australian referee Alireza Faghani to award Mexico a penalty after Kane fouled Brian Gutierrez.

Raul Jimenez scored the final goal of the match.

The decisive penalty from Kane, who plays for Bayern Munich, marked his sixth goal of the tournament. "It was a crazy game," said Kane, the England captain.

"We had the occasion, everything against us, but we found a way."

Norway's Upset

In the earlier fixture, Norway overcame Brazil behind two late goals from striker Erling Haaland.

He tied Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe for the tournament lead with seven goals.

Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland kept the match scoreless in the first half by saving a penalty from Bruno Guimaraes.

Haaland scored twice in the final 11 minutes.

Haaland headed in the opening goal over defender Gabriel Magalhaes 11 minutes before the end of regulation.

He added a second goal from the edge of the penalty area.

Neymar converted an injury-time penalty for Brazil, but the defeat marked the sixth consecutive World Cup tournament where European opposition eliminated Brazil.

Quarterfinal Matchup

The two European nations are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinals at Miami Stadium at 5 p.
