Preston North End has secured the permanent signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine on a five-year contract, both clubs announced on July 7, 2026.

The Championship side triggered a purchase option worth around £6 million, a new club-record fee for Preston North End.

The final transfer price is undisclosed but reportedly nearly three times the fee paid for forward Callum Lang in February.

Devine, 21, scored eight goals and recorded multiple assists in 48 appearances for the Lilywhites last season, earning the club's Young Player of the Year award.

He previously became Tottenham's youngest-ever goalscorer when he netted in an FA Cup match against Marine in January 2021 at 16 years and 163 days old.

Celtic and Southampton had also tracked Devine, whose first-team pathway at Tottenham narrowed after the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

"From the end of last season going into the summer, it was always a priority in terms of where I wanted to be.

It took its time, but I'm delighted it's gone through," Devine said.

The midfielder expressed deep appreciation for his time with the squad during his initial loan spell at Deepdale.

"From the first minute I came here until my last minute of last season, I absolutely loved it," he added.

Devine, who has represented England up to the U20 level, will join Preston permanently as they prepare for the upcoming Championship season.
