The Drents Museum in Assen lifted the suspension of business director Annelies Meuleman on July 9, 2026. This followed a compromise reached during summary proceedings.

The agreement made a substantive ruling by the preliminary relief judge unnecessary. Meuleman had initiated the lawsuit to challenge the Supervisory Board's decision.

Her lawyer, Jan van der Steenhoven, argued the suspension was careless and lacked proper prior consultation.

The board stated it was a temporary step to restore workplace calm amid a leadership dispute, not a disciplinary action.

Settlement Terms

According to the Supervisory Board, strained collaboration between Meuleman and general director Robert van Langh had made the museum unmanageable.

The joint agreement stipulates that Meuleman will formally return but will refrain from working until four weeks after an independent culture investigation concludes in early September.

Both parties agreed to release only a joint statement to staff and media. No official judicial ruling was recorded because the summary proceedings were formally withdrawn.
