London police arrested four people early Friday after clashes with football fans in central London following France's World Cup quarter-final victory over Morocco, according to The Guardian.

Disturbances broke out on Edgware Road near Hyde Park when crowds blocked traffic, leading to confrontations where individuals threw bottles and other objects at responding officers.

The authorities designated the event as an act of violent disorder, a London police spokesperson said.

The confrontation intensified as the crowd began targeting police directly in the middle of the street.

"The incident then escalated with the group throwing bottles and setting off fireworks," a spokesman for the London police said.
