The design was approved by the US Commission of Fine Arts, whose members were appointed by Trump.
The final version features a gold finish, differing from the originally proposed solid gold composition.
Coin Design and Controversy
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the coin aims to honor "the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism."
He added that featuring Trump "celebrates the strength of American values."

The decision to depict a living president on US currency has drawn criticism, as federal law generally prohibits such depictions.
However, the treasury secretary has authority to authorize minting under specific circumstances.
The obverse of the coin shows Trump in a suit and tie with a stern expression.
The word "LIBERTY" appears along the top edge, with "1776-2026" at the bottom. The phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" is centered on the coin.
