Uber has finalized an agreement to acquire German takeaway firm Delivery Hero in a deal valued at $14.8 billion, according to reports.

The strategic move aims to create a massive global food delivery powerhouse.

The US technology firm offered €41.50 per share to Delivery Hero shareholders.

After accounting for previous share purchases, Uber will pay $13.7 billion to finalize the transaction.

The acquisition integrates Uber Eats with Delivery Hero brands across 99 countries. Major platforms include Asia's foodpanda, Latin America's PedidosYa, and talabat in the Middle East.

The combined business recorded $236 billion in orders during 2025. This scale highlights the rapid expansion of the digital delivery sector.

To ease antitrust concerns, Uber will not acquire Delivery Hero operations in 14 countries where it already has a strong presence.

These include Glovo in Spain and Portugal, foodora in Norway and Sweden, and Yemeksepeti in Turkey.

These European operations will instead be acquired for $1.6 billion by SSW Partners, a New York-based private equity firm.

This move prevents market domination by Uber.

Industry Consolidation and Scale Dependencies

Delivery Hero does not operate in the UK, where Uber Eats remains a major player.

The takeover reflects a broader trend of consolidation as companies seek larger operational scales.
