Porsche is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire RUF Automobile, the legendary German firm known for its high-performance Porsche-based cars.
According to Germany's WirtschaftsWoche, citing unnamed sources, Porsche initially approached Singer, a California-based Porsche specialist, but was rebuffed.

That rejection reportedly prompted Porsche CEO Michael Leiters to turn to RUF and its owner Alois Ruf, who is said to be willing to sell.
Why RUF Is More Than a Tuner
RUF identifies itself as a family-owned automaker, not just a tuner, and its cars carry their own manufacturer identity.
Its most famous creation, the CTR 'Yellowbird,' became an icon thanks to its wild performance.
The 80-person company builds very few cars each year, but its engineering personality and independence are highly valued.

Acquiring RUF would follow the same logic as Mercedes absorbing AMG and BMW acquiring Alpina.
It would allow Porsche to bring a trusted independent into the family and use its credibility for in-house luxury and performance projects.
However, RUF's appeal lies in its independence and its ability to build cars Porsche never dared to make.
