Michael Edwards has left his position as chief executive of football operations at Fenway Sports Group, the parent company of Liverpool FC.

The move signals a notable change in the club's leadership structure.

Edwards has been a central figure in Liverpool's recent achievements.

He joined FSG shortly after the group acquired Liverpool in October 2010 and played a key role in shaping the club's transfer strategy.

Under his guidance, Liverpool secured high-profile signings such as Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane. These acquisitions significantly boosted the team's performance and competitiveness.

After initially leaving Liverpool in 2022, Edwards returned in 2024 to help FSG expand its football portfolio.

He focused on identifying potential club acquisitions in Europe, working alongside colleagues Julian Ward and Pedro Marques.

The group explored opportunities with clubs like Getafe and Bordeaux. However, it became clear that the role did not meet Edwards' expectations.

During his second stint, Edwards also contributed to key appointments.

He helped bring in Richard Hughes as Liverpool's new sporting director and Arne Slot as the successor to Jürgen Klopp.

Edwards' departure as FSG's chief executive of football operations marks a significant transition for Liverpool.
