Liverpool have initiated contact with AC Milan to gather information regarding the financial terms of a potential deal for defender Fikayo Tomori.

New manager Andoni Iraola is seeking experience to reinforce a depleted defensive unit ahead of the upcoming season.

The 28-year-old former Chelsea centre-back has entered the final year of his contract at San Siro.

The Italian club is evaluating his future after he turned down an approach from Coventry City.

Juventus are also monitoring the England international, who won a Serie A title during his five-year stint in Italy.

Liverpool's interest follows a summer of significant squad changes.

The arrivals of Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz for nearly £95 million were offset by the departures of Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson.

Recent injuries to Jacquet, Joe Gomez, and Giovanni Leoni have left Iraola with limited options in central defense.

During a press conference on the club's pre-season tour in the United States, Iraola addressed the squad's development and tactical challenges under his leadership.

"I want to think now I am better than I was last year, one more year of experience in the Premier League," Iraola said.

The manager explained the need to adapt to higher expectations while integration of key personnel remains ongoing.

"Now it’s a different challenge, expectations are higher, and it’s a challenge for me as a coach to adapt tactically to new scenarios," Iraola said.

He noted that early preparations have been positive despite the gradual return of experienced players.
