British cyclist Tom Pidcock climbed to fourth place in the Tour de France general classification after Stage 13, a day that saw Mauro Schmid claim his first Tour victory.

The stage featured a mass breakaway on the approach to the Ballon d'Alsace. Pidcock rose as high as second place during the race.

He started the day 7 minutes and 43 seconds behind Remco Evenepoel but finished only nine seconds behind him in the overall standings.

“It was always the objective to make it into a break,” said Pidcock, who rides for Pinarello–Q36.5.

“I think it worked out perfectly. I was also after the stage win, but it was difficult in the end without any teammates.

Pogacar Keeps Yellow Jersey

Race leader Tadej Pogacar described the stage as “weird” while maintaining his pursuit of a fifth Tour win, which would tie him with legends Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, and Miguel Induráin.

“I got this question in the morning,” Pogacar noted when asked about the significance of Tour records. “I can’t say anything.
