An Ohio judge has granted a preliminary injunction for 24 men's and women's college basketball players who are suing the NCAA over age-based eligibility rules.
Judge Christopher Wagner's ruling on Thursday allows the affected athletes to immediately enter the transfer portal, according to The Associated Press.

The players filed a lawsuit claiming that current NCAA rules unfairly restrict them from further competition.
Judge Wagner scheduled an August 4 conference to prepare for the upcoming trial regarding the eligibility standards.

In separate developments, Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard announced his plans to retire next summer.

Pollard, the longest-tenured active Power 4 athletics director, will step down on June 30, 2027, after a 22-year tenure.
The university will launch a national search for his successor in the fall.
