FIFA has appointed a disciplinary prosecutor to investigate the chaotic post-match brawl that erupted after Spain's 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final on July 19 in New Jersey.
An online petition launched by Argentine supporters urging FIFA to replay the final has reached over 82,000 signatures by July 23, citing alleged refereeing irregularities by Slovenian official Slavko Vinčić.

Despite the widespread online campaign, FIFA regulations do not permit match replays based on fan petitions, and the governing body has given no indication it will review the request.
On-Field Altercations
On-field tensions flared immediately after the final whistle when Nahuel Molina struck Spain captain Rodri, while Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala clashed with Spanish forward Dani Olmo.
Midfielder Leandro Paredes was also involved in the altercation, grabbing Eric Garcia and pulling Gavi, though FIFA confirmed no red card was issued to Paredes on the field.
Spanish midfielder Gavi defended Paredes against potential retroactive discipline following the tournament's conclusion.
"I don't think (Paredes) should be suspended.
I understand it's not a good image for children, but I think there's also that side to football, which is a bit more physical, more aggressive," Gavi said.
"The most logical thing would have been to send him off during the match, and that's it.
In the end, I think it's all football, and it has to be that way."
Meanwhile, Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala addressed his involvement in the confrontation with Dani Olmo during a broadcast interview.
