Ford has announced a partnership with Apple to integrate Apple Maps into its future vehicles, starting with a $30,000 electric pickup truck.
The move positions Apple against Google's Android Automotive OS, which has been adopted by several automakers.

The navigation system will be built into Ford's Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, which will underpin the affordable truck and other EVs.
Apple's MapKit for Automotive SDK promises a "beautiful and easy-to-use navigation experience" directly on vehicle displays.
Ford will also use road-level data from Apple Maps to develop its next-generation BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system, aiming for a more seamless hands-free experience.
Key Features of the Apple Maps Integration
Drivers can expect natural language turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic and incident information, and an intuitive search feature with detailed place cards.
Multiple routing options will be available, likely including recharging stops for long trips.

Apple Maps already monitors battery levels, elevation changes, and other factors to suggest charging stations along a route.
It also provides real-time charging station availability and can find the nearest compatible station when the battery is low.
Ford confirmed a battery preconditioning function: when navigating to a charging station, the battery will prepare itself for optimal charging upon arrival.
Ford CEO Jim Farley said the $30,000 midsize EV "redefines what advanced technology can be - simple, useful, and truly attainable."
He added that embedding Apple Maps gives customers "the ultimate navigation experience" alongside Ford's app and next-gen BlueCruise.

Apple's Eddy Cue noted that the MapKit for Automotive SDK brings Maps "further into drivers' daily lives" with an accurate and easy-to-use system seamlessly integrated into Ford vehicles.
