Director Destin Daniel Cretton has clarified the role of actor Sadie Sink in Marvel Studios' upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set for release on July 31, 2026.
Online speculation has suggested that the Stranger Things star might be playing telepathic mutant Jean Grey. However, Marvel has kept Sink's exact identity secret during the press tour.

Cretton indicated that her character plays an important role in shaping Peter Parker's internal choices throughout the film.
During an interview on The Backstage Experience, host Dave Morales attempted to hint at the character's name, but Sink successfully avoided revealing details.
In a separate interview, Cretton explained that Sink's character serves as a crucial point of comparison for Parker's overall character arc, alongside other appearing figures like Punisher, Bruce Banner, and Detective Jean DeWolff.
"I think what Sadie's character brings to this movie is very similar to what every one of the characters that enters this story—Punisher, Bruce Banner—is a reflection, in different ways, of Peter's journey and what he's going through," said Cretton.

The director noted that the narrative forces the lead character to choose between isolated focus on his duties or building a balanced personal life.
"Even [Detective Jean] DeWolff is a reflection, and it shows Peter different routes that he could take," said Cretton.
"He's at a fork in the road emotionally.
He could continue down the road of complete isolation, dedicating himself solely to his work and nothing else, or he could learn how to find more balance in his life, and that's sort of the decision that he's faced with in different ways throughout this movie."
