Expedition Motor Company (EMC) has unveiled its latest project, a bright orange Mercedes-Benz 250GD that it calls "period-correct."
However, the extensive mechanical upgrades suggest otherwise.

While the exterior retains a classic appearance, the heart of this G-Wagen has been thoroughly modernized.
EMC kept the original 2.5-liter OM605a turbodiesel five-cylinder but boosted its output from 150 hp to 225 hp.
This power increase comes from new dual overhead camshafts and a turbocharger. The result is roughly double the power of non-turbocharged versions of the same engine.
EMC typically offers LS engine swaps for classic G-Class models, but this build retains the original powerplant.
The added power transforms the driving experience, making "restomod" a more fitting label than "restoration."

The exterior is finished in a special shade called Magma Beam Orange, contrasted by black accents.
These include a steel front bumper with bulbar, black fender flares, a black roll cage, and black 17-inch Stahl wheels.
Inside, the cabin features dual-tone Doppio and Nasturtium-colored leather with stained oak trim. The new materials extend to the dashboard and steering wheel.
From behind the wheel, the G-Wagen feels familiar, but the extra power changes the character significantly.
