The British government has temporarily withdrawn its embassy staff from Iran, citing deteriorating regional security conditions following continuous military exchanges in the Middle East.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) announced that the Tehran embassy will now operate remotely as hostility intensifies.

Official updates indicate that British and dual British-Iranian nationals face severe risks within the country, including potential detention by local authorities.

Security assessments cite a high level of danger for individuals linked to the United Kingdom.

"Due to the ongoing security situation, we have taken the precautionary measure to temporarily withdraw UK staff from Iran.

Our embassy continues to operate remotely," the FCDO said.

Official guidance continues to warn against all travel to the country, noting that emergency face-to-face consular assistance is no longer available.

The FCDO described a "very high risk of arrest, detention and questioning" for British nationals.

British authorities warned that simple possession of a UK passport can trigger official action from Iranian forces.

"Holding a British passport or having perceived connections to the UK can be reason enough for the Iranian authorities to detain you," the FCDO added.

Regional Military Activity Intensifies

The diplomatic drawdown occurred alongside a wider updating of travel advisories for multiple nations across the Gulf region.

The pullout follows intense military activity, including an attack by Iran-backed Houthi rebels on two Saudi oil tankers off the coast of Saudi Arabia, which caused a fire on one vessel.

In response, the US military launched its twelfth consecutive night of strikes against Iranian targets, utilizing long-range B-1 bombers.
