Toyota has issued a recall for 5,408 examples of the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX in the United States due to a serious safety issue with the rear axle carrier.
The affected part, a forged aluminum rear axle carrier, may have been manufactured with substandard material by a supplier, potentially causing it to break where it attaches to the toe control arm.

Risk of Loss of Control
If the rear axle carrier fails, it could detach from the toe control arm, compromising rear stability and increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota believes that only about 5% of the recalled vehicles—roughly 270 units—actually have the defective part.
No accidents or warranty claims related to the issue have been reported.

The recall covers 2026 Lexus TX and TX Hybrid models built between April 10 and April 27, 2026, as well as TX Plug-In Hybrid models manufactured from April 10 to April 21, 2026.
Also included are 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander and Grand Highlander Hybrid models produced from April 10 to April 27, 2026.
Repairs to Begin This Quarter
Toyota and Lexus will notify owners between August 23 and September 6, 2026, instructing them to visit a dealership.

Dealers will inspect the rear axle carrier sub-assembly and replace it if necessary.
