The Chicago White Sox have added right-handed pitcher José Urquidy to their roster, acquiring him from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a trade announced Sunday night, July 26, 2026.
Urquidy, 31, struggled early this season, posting an 8.53 ERA over six appearances with the Pirates before being designated for assignment on July 24.
Trade Details
In exchange for Urquidy, the White Sox sent 21-year-old right-handed pitcher Felix Doroteo to Pittsburgh.
Doroteo, who stands 6-foot-6, signed out of the Dominican Republic last year.
In 18 innings with the White Sox's Arizona Complex League affiliate this season, he recorded a 4.50 ERA with 24 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Urquidy's Career
Urquidy spent most of his major league career with the Houston Astros from 2019 to 2023, compiling a 4.07 ERA in 86 games.
After undergoing his second Tommy John surgery in 2024, he pitched for the Detroit Tigers in 2025.
