Seventeen-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus won the men's 800m at the 2026 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Icahn Stadium in New York City.
He completed a U. S.

indoor and outdoor title sweep with a time of 1:43.48.
Lutkenhaus broke away over the final 250 meters and finished more than a second ahead of runner-up Wes Ferguson, who clocked 1:44.55.
Hobbs Kessler took third in 1:45.00.
It was Lutkenhaus's first outdoor national title after finishing second at last year's U. S.
Championships.
"I've been working all year for this; I really wanted to be the U. S.
indoor and outdoor champ - that was my main goal," Lutkenhaus told reporters.
"To be able to achieve that... it's really special to have been able to have done it," he added.
The race was Lutkenhaus's final competition of the season.
He plans to focus on his senior year of high school in Texas and will not return until the 2027 indoor season.

"I'm done racing for a while now," he said. "I really wanted this one to last for a little bit.
So that's exactly what has happened."
Earlier in 2026, Lutkenhaus won the U. S.
indoor title and became the youngest individual medalist in World Athletics Indoor Championships history with a victory in Poland.
He posted a world lead time of 1:42.08 at the Oslo Diamond League last month, defeating reigning Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi.
