OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman has declared that humanity has already entered the artificial intelligence singularity, ushering in an era of superintelligence.
He made the announcement during an appearance on the YouTube podcast "How to Start a Startup" hosted by Ti Morse.

Altman emphasized that the shift occurred faster than anticipated. "The thing that drives me the most is...
this is the most interesting important thing I can imagine doing, and we are now in the singularity.
This is the moment," he said.
He recalled that ten years ago, the singularity was a distant dream discussed casually.
Now, it has become a reality, with AI progressing along an exponential curve rather than a single tipping point.
Altman expressed concern over alternative AI visions proposed by competitor firms and stated he would work to prevent those models from taking hold.

The central challenge, he noted, is whether the technology will foster freedom or concentrate authority.
He advocated against a future where a single model or corporation controls the sector, arguing that society must retain the power to dictate usage despite potential risks.
During the interview, Altman shared a personal anecdote about his user research habits while building OpenAI's video application, Sora.
He revealed that he became addicted to TikTok while researching user behavior for the app's development.
These comments build on statements Altman made in a June 2025 blog post titled "The Gentle Singularity," where he wrote that humanity had crossed the event horizon of AI development.
