BMW has unveiled long-wheelbase versions of the new X5 and iX5 exclusively for the Chinese market, less than a month after the global debut of the standard model.
The stretched SUVs feature a wheelbase extended by 5.1 inches (130 mm) to 124.6 inches (3,165 mm), surpassing the larger X7's 122.2-inch wheelbase.

Exterior and Autonomous Driving
Visually, the X5 L and iX5 L are nearly identical to their global counterparts, but with subtle changes such as unique graphics near the Hofmeister kink and different wheel designs.
Standard models come with diagonal daytime running lights instead of the X-shaped units, though the latter are available as an option.
Extra light strips have been added between the DRLs and kidney grilles, and the front bumper is slightly less imposing.
The most significant upgrade is the driver-assistance system, which uses software from Chinese company Momenta.

It features locally trained end-to-end AI and provides 'address-to-address driver assistance,' likely more advanced than BMW's global system, though it lacks LiDAR.
Luxurious Interior
Inside, the long-wheelbase models offer enhanced luxury with new front passenger and rear seats, plus a fold-down theater screen in the second row that supports 8K streaming and gaming.
Additional color options are also available.

BMW has not yet released powertrain details, but one all-electric version of the iX5 L is expected to achieve a driving range of over 621 miles (1,000 km) on the CLTC cycle.
