Bill Oddie, the British television personality and conservationist, has died at the age of 85. His agent confirmed the news on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Oddie rose to fame as a member of the 1970s comedy trio The Goodies alongside Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden.

He later became a prominent BBC wildlife presenter.
From Cambridge to Conservation
Born William Edgar Oddie, he studied at Cambridge University and first entered entertainment through the Footlights Club.
He went on to front nature broadcasts including Birding With Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie Goes Wild, Springwatch, Autumnwatch, and How To Watch Wildlife.
His representative, David Foster, released a statement honoring Oddie's legacy.
"It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of Bill Oddie, the country’s best-loved birder," Foster said.
Foster praised Oddie's wide-ranging talents. "Bill was a multi-talented celebrity – wildlife presenter, broadcaster, comedian, writer, songwriter, musician and conservationist.
Yet it was never fame that he valued," Foster said.
The statement highlighted Oddie's grassroots efforts. "Instead he encouraged us to respect and protect the environment.

He taught us the wonder of it. He protested, lobbied and campaigned for it," Foster said.
Foster noted that Oddie's public engagement inspired audiences across generations. "He led the way and people of all ages and backgrounds responded to his call.
And such a massive contribution to conservation will never be forgotten," Foster said.
Reflecting on their professional relationship, Foster said: "As Bill’s agent I witnessed close hand his intelligence and wit.
He was my friend and it was an honour and a privilege to represent him for so many years.
I will miss him terribly."
The announcement concluded with a privacy request for Oddie's family.
"My thoughts and love are with Bill’s wife, Laura, and his daughters Bonnie, Kate and Rosie, who have asked not to be contacted at this sad time.
