The spin-off series, set roughly five to six years after the flagship show's finale, kicked off its new season with an episode titled "Trillium."
In the opening episode, Maggie and Negan find themselves designated as wanted fugitives across Manhattan while attempting to navigate a tense truce.
Their journey takes a sudden turn when they are captured by two new survivors, Luis and Renata, who mistake Negan for the Croat's second-in-command.
The captors force Maggie and Negan into a search for critical methane gas tanks required to power an incubator for a newborn baby.
During their search, a nearby bomb explosion unleashes a swarm of walkers into the city streets, throwing the survivors into immediate crisis.
Amid the chaos, the group encounters the Croat, who suffers fatal injuries after New Babylon seizes the remaining methane supplies.
Before succumbing to his wounds on the steps of the Croatian embassy, the Croat shares a final exchange with Negan.

Negan subsequently prevents the Croat's reanimation by driving a knife into his skull.
The survivors successfully secure the last functional methane tank, allowing Luis to deliver his sister-in-law's baby safely at a local hospital.
Following the delivery, Renata invites Maggie to remain with their community to help rebuild, while Negan encounters an eccentric survivor named Dillard operating a self-sustaining bar inside the ruined city.
According to AMC Global Media, new episodes of "The Walking Dead: Dead City" Season 3 will broadcast every Sunday at 9 p.
m. ET until the season finale scheduled for Sept.
13.
The cast features Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jimmi Simpson as Dillard, Raúl Castillo as Luis, Aimee Garcia as Renata, and Logan Kim as Hershel Rhee.
