King Charles has invited Prince Harry to stay at Buckingham Palace during his planned return to the United Kingdom in September 2026.

The 41-year-old Duke of Sussex will travel to London to attend the annual WellChild Awards ceremony.

The accommodation offer follows an incident during Prince Harry's previous visit in July 2026 for the Invictus Games countdown, where he missed the deadline to secure royal residence housing and ultimately stayed in private accommodations.

Sign of Improving Relations

Earlier in July, Prince Harry met privately with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House alongside Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Observers view the latest residence offer as a step toward improving relations between the monarch and his son.

Royal author Robert Jobson highlighted the gradual shift in family dynamics regarding the recent interactions.

"Obviously there does appear to be a sense that it's a gradual process and things are improving," Jobson said.

The offer provides full-time palace security for the visit duration, addressing ongoing protection issues Prince Harry faces since stepping back from official royal duties.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, noted the significance of the monarch's invitation ahead of the September events.

"Harry realises it is a very generous offer by his father and needs to respect that this time and be gracious about it," Seward said.

She added further perspective on how the invitation could serve as a focal point for future interactions.

"This is a chance perhaps for Harry to show his father he knows how to behave," Seward said.
