Wildfires sweeping through the Gironde and Landes regions of Southwest France have forced the evacuation of approximately 220,000 people and disrupted postal services, immobilizing around 700,000 pieces of mail, according to La Poste and government officials.
The fires have consumed 115,000 hectares since the start of the year.

They caused the temporary closure of 23 post offices and 11 distribution centers, including the major sorting platform in Cestas that serves ten departments.
La Poste reported delays in mail delivery despite efforts to maintain essential services through alternative facilities in Toulouse and Tours.
About 550 postal workers evacuated from affected areas have found shelter with relatives or through social services.
Mail items in inaccessible zones are securely stored until distribution can resume.
Fire Progress and Government Response
Interior Minister Laurent Nunez noted that the largest fire near Bordeaux has stopped spreading, marking a hopeful turn after flames approached within 15 kilometers of the city.
However, he warned that the situation remains precarious as the fire continues to smolder and weather conditions could worsen with an impending heatwave.
"It did not progress overnight," said Nunez, urging continued vigilance and readiness for any developments.
The minister also advised the public to avoid the region, which is popular for its Atlantic beaches and extensive forests, as firefighting efforts continue and evacuation orders remain in effect.
