Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Friday that 98 people across 17 states have fallen ill in a salmonella outbreak tied to recalled eggs.

Between November 21 and June 30, 26 individuals were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

Cases have been identified in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.

Recalled Eggs from Midwest Poultry Services

Investigators have linked the outbreak to white and brown shell eggs distributed by Indiana-based Midwest Poultry Services L.

P. However, the recalled eggs do not account for all reported illnesses.

The company recalled approximately 1.6 million dozen eggs produced and distributed from Texas farms between June 6 and July 3.

The eggs have sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20 to August 17.

The recalled eggs were shipped to foodservice customers and retailers across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, including major grocery stores in those states and others.

Consumers can identify the recalled eggs by plant code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian dates 157 through 184 printed on the carton.

Health officials urge consumers not to eat the recalled eggs and to discard them or return them for a refund.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), salmonella infection symptoms include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Symptoms typically appear six hours to six days after exposure.

Young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness.
