The Washington Nationals have made a roster move ahead of their series against the Toronto Blue Jays, recalling right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz from Triple-A Rochester.
The team also designated left-handed pitcher Matt Krook for assignment.

Krook's designation follows a difficult outing on Sunday, where he walked three batters in the top of the ninth inning without recording an out.
This forced the Nationals to rely on Clayton Beeter in consecutive appearances.
Krook had previously been designated for assignment on July 12 and elected free agency before re-signing with Washington on July 19 after PJ Poulin was placed on the injured list.
His recent performance makes another return unlikely, according to reports.

Schultz, originally claimed off waivers from Toronto on Jan. 9, joins the major league club after recovering from early-season right elbow inflammation.
He has a 5.87 ERA over 25 major league appearances this season, including one start.
Despite his major league struggles, Schultz has been effective in Triple-A, posting a 2.30 ERA across 14 relief appearances with Rochester.
He recorded 16 strikeouts and five walks over 15 2/3 innings pitched.

The Nationals continue to search for reliable bullpen options as they aim to stay competitive in the playoff race.
