San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt exited Monday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Oracle Park after suffering an apparent left leg injury in the second inning.
Schmitt hurt himself while slamming on the brakes around first base following a bloop single to right field.
He immediately grabbed his lower left leg and left knee, prompting a visit from manager Tony Vitello and head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner.
The 27-year-old walked off the field under his own power but was visibly limping and needed help descending the dugout steps.
Christian Koss replaced him as a pinch-runner and took over at third base in the third inning.
Breakout Season Interrupted
Schmitt was in the midst of a breakout 2026 campaign, posting career highs with a . 271 batting average, .
784 OPS, 21 home runs, and 55 RBIs.
He had been filling in at third base for Matt Chapman, who is on the 10-day injured list with an abdominal strain.
The Giants will send Schmitt for further evaluation to determine the extent of the lower-body injury.
Koss is expected to handle third base until Chapman potentially returns during the upcoming series in San Diego.
