Ohio's 7th Congressional District has become a battleground for the 2026 midterm elections, with recent polling and rating changes signaling increased vulnerability for the Republican Party.
The Cook Political Report reclassified the district from "Solid Republican" to "Likely Republican," reflecting heightened electoral uncertainty in a territory President Donald Trump won by 11 percentage points in 2024.

Tight Polling and Key Voter Shifts
A survey conducted by Democratic polling firm GBAO between June 18 and June 20 among 500 likely voters showed incumbent Republican Representative Max Miller holding a narrow 44 percent to 43 percent lead over Democratic challenger Brian Poindexter.
The margin falls within the 3.5 percentage point error margin, making the race statistically tied.
Poindexter holds a 17-point lead among independent voters, while Trump's approval rating in the district stands at 44 percent against a 54 percent disapproval rating.
Prediction markets mirror the tight margins.
Kalshi prices Miller at a 55 percent winning chance versus Poindexter's 49 percent, while Polymarket records a 51 percent to 48 percent advantage for Republicans.
Domestic Abuse Allegations Add Pressure
The political pressure coincides with public attention surrounding domestic abuse allegations made by Miller's ex-wife, Emily Moreno, during their divorce proceedings finalized on December 18, 2025.

Miller addressed the allegations directly in an interview, firmly denying all claims. "They're false allegations.
Our divorce was finalized in December 18 in '25. No police reports were ever filed," he said.
He further dismissed the accusations by raising questions about Moreno's personal health. "Once again, we're talking about a woman who sadly isn't all there," Miller stated.
Court records and police interviews show Moreno accused Miller of physical assault and threats involving a firearm, though no criminal charges were filed.
Her attorney, Subodh Chandra, said Moreno has no diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
