South Korean music group BTS announced on July 29, 2026, that it will not submit any work for consideration at the upcoming 2027 Grammy Awards.
The band opted out of the Recording Academy's entry process.

The group released a brief statement on social media confirming their stance against regional categorization in music competition fields.
This decision marks a significant turn for BTS, which previously cited winning a Grammy as a major career milestone.
"We have decided not to submit to the Grammys this year.
We hope music can be heard and embraced for what it is, beyond region or language," wrote BTS on social media.
New Category Sparks Debate
The announcement followed the Recording Academy's June unveiling of five new competitive categories for the 69th Grammy Awards, including Best Asian Pop Music Performance.

The entry period opened on July 7 and runs through August 21.
The new category targets performances originating from or recognized in Asian markets that utilize Asian languages.
This has sparked debate on whether the move provides representation or isolates non-Western artists from mainstream categories.
"Thank you to ARMY and everyone who continues to support us," the group added in the post.

BTS members wrote on their respective social media accounts: "We want music to be heard and loved for what it is, rather than categorized by region or language."
