Environment Canada issued a yellow severe thunderstorm watch for several regions across Quebec, including Lanaudiere, on Tuesday afternoon, July 28, 2026.
Officials warned that atmospheric conditions favor the rapid development of strong wind gusts, large hail, and intense rainfall throughout the afternoon and evening.
Strong and sudden wind gusts over water bodies could make nautical activities particularly dangerous during the alert period.
Torrential downpours may also lead to flash floods and severely reduce road visibility, prompting officials to advise drivers against traveling on flooded roadways.
The federal agency stressed that residents should seek shelter immediately if thunder rumbles.
"Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible," stated Environment Canada in its severe weather alert.
Severe thunderstorm watches are declared when meteorological conditions are ripe for storms capable of producing destructive winds, heavy precipitation, or hail.
The Crown corporation noted high confidence in its forecast, covering sectors including Berthierville – Saint-Gabriel, Mascouche, Rawdon – Joliette, Saint-Donat – Mont-Tremblant National Park, and Saint-Michel-des-Saints.
