The Chicago White Sox erased a four-run deficit and edged the New York Yankees 6-5 in 12 innings on Wednesday night at Rate Field.
Edgar Quero delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning, scoring Tristan Peters to secure the victory before a crowd of 31,694.
New York jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning against White Sox starter Davis Martin.
Spencer Jones hit a three-run home run and Paul Goldschmidt added an RBI single.
Martin settled down after the opening frame, striking out six batters over six innings while throwing a career-high 106 pitches.
He kept Chicago within striking distance.
Yankees starter Cam Schlittler dominated early, pitching six scoreless innings with two hits allowed and eight strikeouts. He lowered his American League-leading ERA to 2.04.
The White Sox began their comeback in the seventh inning. Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI double off Schlittler to score Munetaka Murakami.
Chicago tied the game in the eighth inning against the Yankees bullpen.
Sam Antonacci hit a two-run home run off Paul Blackburn, and Murakami followed with a game-tying solo home run.
New York briefly regained the lead in the top of the 11th on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Volpe.
But Chicago answered in the bottom half when an errant pickoff throw by catcher Ali Sánchez allowed Murakami to score from third base.
The Yankees loaded the bases with one out in the top of the 12th but failed to score.
In the bottom half, Quero singled off reliever Ryan Yarbrough to drive in Peters.
The loss dropped the Yankees to 1-7 in extra-inning games this season. The four-game series concludes Thursday afternoon in Chicago.
