Houston Astros starting pitcher Hayden Wesneski earned a victory against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, allowing three runs over 5 2/3 innings in his return to the MLB mound.
The start was Wesneski's first in 14 months after recovering from elbow surgery, according to NBC Sports. He struck out four batters and gave up nine hard-hit balls.

Despite the hard contact, Wesneski showed efficiency by throwing first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 25 batters he faced.
He recorded 17 outs on just 79 pitches.

His sweeper had slower velocity and increased movement compared to previous outings, generating a 43 percent Called Strikes plus Whiff rate with no hard-hit balls on five put-in-play instances.
Houston could explore other rotation options before the trade deadline, but starting pitching remains a lower organizational priority.

Wesneski is tentatively scheduled to start next against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
