Italian firm Vespera Automobili has revealed its own take on the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution II restomod, called the Iride Evo 5.
The debut comes as HWA prepares to deliver its first customer cars.
Vespera's creation follows a similar philosophy to HWA's but delivers significantly more power. The sedan's design remains faithful to the original while receiving performance upgrades.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, Vespera uses a Mercedes M103 inline-six engine bored out to 3.0 liters.
Forged internals and a large turbocharger help produce 765 hp and 671 lb-ft (910 Nm) of torque.
The restomod can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).
In comparison, HWA's EVO uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 493 hp.
Exterior and Design
A lightweight carbon fiber body kit widens the car by 3.9 inches on each side.
The kit includes wider front and rear fender flares, a unique front bumper, a large splitter, a revised rear bumper, fresh badging, and a large rear wing.
The first example is finished in Montreal Green, a color available on Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models.
Gold-painted OZ Racing wheels with a classic rally design contrast the green paint.
Vespera has not yet completed the interior, but it is expected to receive its own upgrades.
Currently, only one example exists. Vespera says more will follow if demand justifies production.
Pricing has not been announced, but it could match or exceed HWA's EVO, which starts around $770,000 before tax.
