Sparta Rotterdam has secured the signing of attacking midfielder Robin van Cruijsen from FC Volendam, with the 20-year-old putting pen to paper on a contract running through mid-2030.

The transfer fee was not disclosed.

Van Cruijsen enjoyed a breakout campaign last season despite FC Volendam's relegation from the Eredivisie.

He recorded four goals and three assists in 26 official appearances, including a stunning long-range volley against league champions PSV and a goal on his first start against Excelsior Rotterdam.

His performances earned him the Johan Cruyff Talent of the Month award in September.

FC Volendam had extended his contract in January through 2030, meaning Sparta had to pay a fee to secure his services.

Technical Director Praises New Signing

Sparta Technical Director Gerard Nijkamp expressed satisfaction with the deal, noting the club beat off interest from other teams.

"We are very satisfied with the fact that Robin chose us, despite the clubs that showed interest in him," Nijkamp said.

He highlighted Van Cruijsen's creativity, goal-scoring ability, and potential for growth over the four-year contract.

"In Robin, we add an offensive midfielder with specific qualities to the squad," Nijkamp added.

Van Cruijsen will join the match squad for Saturday's Family Day before making his official debut next Sunday.

The transfer is the second between the two clubs this summer.

Sparta previously signed Nick Verschuren, who spent last season on loan at Volendam, while Mike Kleijn moved to Volendam on loan.
