The Algerabrug, connecting Capelle and Krimpen aan den IJssel, will be fully closed for four weeks starting August 10, 2026, for major maintenance.
The closure is expected to cause significant financial losses and lengthy detours for local businesses.

Rijkswaterstaat reduced the maintenance window from six to four weeks and added ferry services, extra bicycle parking, and a temporary pedestrian and bicycle bridge.
However, motorized traffic must detour via the N10 through Gouda.
The bridge is a vital artery, carrying about 47,000 vehicles and 7,600 cyclists daily between Krimpenerwaard, Capelle aan den IJssel, and Rotterdam.
Residents and Businesses Brace for Impact
Corry, a 74-year-old local resident, has temporarily canceled her volunteer work at Blijdorp zoo as a precaution.
"Everyone is very negative about the closure, but maintenance has to be carried out. I think it will all not be so bad in the end," she said.
Her husband Joop, 75, an on-call driver for Zuid-West Transport, worries about extra travel time.
"I will soon have to drive around for at least an hour extra and I am afraid that additional time will be added due to delays.
That is especially bad for the boss, who incurs extra costs. While the customers pay nothing extra," he said.
Martijn Robbemond, manager at a bed specialty store near the bridgehead, expects a sharp drop in foot traffic and revenue.
"I hold my heart," he said. He noted that qualifying for compensation requires five years of historical data, making immediate recovery difficult.
