British households receiving means-tested benefits must ensure their names are listed on their electricity bills by August 23, 2026, to automatically receive a £150 Warm Home Discount this winter.
The government announced on July 31 that around six million households across Britain qualify for the financial relief, following an extension of the program through the 2030/1 fiscal period.

The automatic payment depends on energy supplier account records as of the Sunday deadline.
Expanded Eligibility
The expansion grants automatic eligibility to roughly 345,000 Scottish households, an increase of about 250,000 compared to previous years.
Eligible groups include residents receiving Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, or Support for Mortgage Interest who meet specific vulnerability criteria.
Officials noted that consumers who recently moved or use pre-payment key meters must proactively register their account details to avoid missing the deadline.
Additional support remains available directly through individual energy providers.
Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh urged eligible billpayers to verify their details ahead of the cutoff.

"Families will be worried about their energy bills this winter and our focus is on giving them breathing space, as we continue to work to bring down bills," she said.
The administration emphasized that nearly one million additional families with children accessed the support program during the previous winter following initial policy adjustments.
"More households are eligible to receive the £150 Warm Home Discount automatically this year, after we made it easier for people in Scotland to get the support they need," Fahnbulleh added.
The rebate works alongside broader government measures, including a temporary removal of VAT from domestic electricity bills from October 1 through March 2027, which cuts £45 from the annual Ofgem price cap.
"If you know someone who might benefit, please start spreading the word and encourage them to check they are named on their energy bill," she said.

The initiative is part of the government's wider Warm Homes Plan aimed at curbing household energy consumption and reducing fuel poverty.
