Emergency crews contained a fast-moving dune fire that broke out along the Oosterduinpad in Ouddorp on Friday morning, July 31, 2026, around 11:30 AM.
Firefighters successfully controlled the blaze shortly after arriving on the scene.

Challenging Terrain and Aerial Support
First responders faced significant logistical challenges due to the rugged terrain.
According to the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region, responders discovered fire spots across three distinct locations in the dune area.
Off-road dune vehicles and tracked equipment were deployed to navigate the sand and unpaved paths. Crews utilized water bladders where standard engines could not reach.
To assist ground operations, a firefighter drone team equipped with thermal imaging cameras monitored the area from above.
The aerial view allowed emergency services to track the fire's spread in real time, enabling quick action that led officials to declare the fire under control within half an hour.

A witness observed that emergency responders encountered complex conditions upon arrival. "The fire service discovered fires in three places and they were not all easy to reach.
The fire service had to use special tracked vehicles for this," a witness said.
Following the containment, emergency crews remained on site for damping-down operations to cool hot spots and prevent embers from rekindling.
High local temperatures prompted officials to rotate firefighting teams earlier than usual to maintain safety protocols.
Authorities closed the adjacent Middelduinpad during the incident.
