Representative from Naples and frontrunner in the Republican primary scheduled for August 18, outlined a strategy designed to capture manufacturing and technical growth as commercial launches accelerate across the state.
The proposal focuses on capturing a larger share of the global commercial space sector, which is projected to reach $1.8 trillion in economic activity over the next decade.
Florida recorded 165 rocket launches in 2025, with projections anticipating up to 1,000 annual launches in the coming years.
Key Proposals
"As your governor, I will make Florida the world headquarters for space exploration," said Byron Donalds, Republican candidate for Florida governor.
To support industry growth, Donalds proposed creating an Office for Space Industry within the governor's office during his first year.
He also pledged to introduce legislation that fast-tracks environmental permitting for aerospace facilities without altering environmental standards, designating 10 strategic development sites statewide.
"We believe it's going to be a multi trillion-dollar industry in our state," said Donalds.
"We do more launches than anybody and we want to make sure we have sites prepared not just for the launches, but for all of the manufacturing and the other ancillary parts of commercial space.
We want that to come to Florida, not just for Florida's economy, but for the hard-working people of our state."
