Genesis has confirmed that its upcoming GV90 flagship SUV will feature rear-hinged coach doors, a design element typically associated with ultra-luxury models like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Ferrari Purosangue.

The confirmation comes from Genesis Europe Managing Director Peter Kronschnabl, who spoke to Car Magazine about the feature.

He noted that Rolls-Royce is the only other brand currently offering coach doors, and he believes this will serve as a unique selling point for the GV90 in its segment.

Kronschnabl, who joined the Hyundai Group brand in 2025 after 30 years at BMW, said the new SUV will “show what the brand can do when it comes to luxury,” describing it as “another dimension of premium.”

Production Version Keeps Concept's Signature Feature

The GV90 builds on the 2024 Genesis Neolun concept, which showcased the coach door design.

While such concept features often don't make it to production, this one has, according to the executive.

Spy shots over the past couple of years have shown camouflaged GV90 prototypes with both automatic suicide doors and conventional doors, raising questions about whether the coach setup will be reserved for higher trim levels.

The GV90 will be built on the group's new eM architecture, an evolution of the E-GMP platform that underpins the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9.
