Volvo is reportedly developing a new entry-level electric crossover that could be called the EX50. The model is expected to replace the EX40 and arrive in 2027.

According to Automotive News, the EX50 will be based on the new SPA3 platform, which debuted on the EX60.

It will be produced at Volvo's new plant in Slovakia.

The company reportedly aims to sell 10,000 units in the United States in its first year, which would make it one of Volvo's best-selling models in America.

However, production might prioritize Europe.

While details are scarce, the EX50 is said to be longer and taller than the EX40.

It is also expected to feature an 800V electrical architecture for faster charging.

Pricing is a key highlight.

The current EX40 starts at $56,545, but the EX50 is allegedly priced in the "high $40,000s," making it significantly cheaper.

Volvo spokesperson Thomas McIntyre Schultz declined to comment on the model but stated, "we're going to continue to invest in expanding our EV lineup."

XC40 Could Continue with a Facelift

While the EX50 may replace the EX40, the gas-powered XC40 could receive a facelift to extend its life.

Spy photographers recently captured a refreshed XC40 undergoing testing in Spain.

The updated model features a new front fascia with a revised grille, restyled headlights, a revamped bumper, and a revised lower intake.

At the rear, there is a new bumper and updated taillights.
