Chery has achieved a 2 percent market share in Britain less than a year after its first customer deliveries.

In July, the Chinese automaker registered 3,212 SUVs, surpassing Honda and Mazda combined, which totaled 2,912 registrations.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Chery’s July sales also exceeded those of Citroen, Dacia, Suzuki, and other established European and Japanese brands.

Year-to-date, Chery has amassed 21,191 registrations despite only starting UK deliveries last September and completing its SUV lineup in March.

Rapid Rise in the UK

Chery officially launched in Britain last August and recorded its first customer registrations the following month.

The company has since expanded its Tiggo SUV range to four models, growing from an unknown entity to a significant volume player in less than 12 months.

The brand’s sister companies, Omoda and Jaecoo, contributed additional sales in July, with Omoda adding 3,403 registrations and Jaecoo 5,502.

Together, the three brands shifted 12,117 vehicles, nearly double Toyota’s 6,653 sales for the month.

Jaecoo has been a standout performer.

Its Jaecoo 7 model became the first Chinese car to top the UK’s monthly sales chart in March and currently ranks third in the year-to-date model standings.

In July, it placed fourth, ahead of its smaller sibling, the Jaecoo 5.

The rapid success has caught the attention of American automakers.

Ford CEO Jim Farley has warned that Chinese brands could reach the US within the next 5-10 years, even with tariffs and regulatory barriers.
