Ford has taken a significant step toward bringing a four-door Mustang to market.

During a private meeting in Las Vegas, the automaker showed dealers an early prototype of the Mustang Mach 4, marking the first time a physical version has been displayed.

Attendees compared the vehicle's size and design to a Porsche Panamera, according to Autonews.

The prototype follows a rendering shown in 2024, and Ford has since trademarked the Mach 4 name.

Pricing and Performance Targets

Ford executives told dealers that the four-door Mustang would start under $40,000.

They also claimed it would accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds and offer more rear legroom than a Panamera.

This isn't the first hint of a sedan variant.

A sketch of a four-door Mustang appeared in official materials during the reveal of the seventh-generation S650 in September 2022.

Ford's Shift Back to Sedans

The Mustang is currently Ford's only non-SUV and non-truck in North America. However, executives have softened their stance on sedans.

Ford Blue and Model e president Andrew Frick acknowledged that a core group of buyers still wants a traditional car.

CEO Jim Farley has also said the brand would expand the Mustang family if new derivatives maintain the original's character and performance.

These statements support the case for a Mustang sedan.

Earlier reports suggested an electric platform, but MotorTrend indicates the Mach 4 will likely use an elongated version of the S650 architecture.
