Saleen has confirmed it is developing a new upgrade package for the Ford Mustang, bringing back the SR badge it used in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The project, called the SR Widebody, is based on the current S650-generation Mustang.

A teaser shared on Instagram shows a car with flared wheel arches and a large rear wing.

The wing appears significantly bigger than the one on the Mustang Dark Horse S/C.

The teaser also suggests a new hood with aggressive air vents, plus a revised front bumper and grille.

Saleen says production of the SR Widebody will be “very limited.”

Mechanical upgrades are expected to complement the exterior changes, including tweaks to the V8.

Funding Push Continues

The SR Widebody arrives as Saleen seeks investment from enthusiasts.

In late June, a fundraising campaign on Invown was launched, allowing fans to buy a small stake.

That campaign was suspended in mid-July after raising just $1,500.

Saleen has since started a separate financial push on Wefunder.

At the time of writing, the company had raised $119,501 from 82 investors on that platform.

Saleen has projected revenue could rise from an estimated $12.3 million in 2027 to $36.8 million in 2028.

Further estimates put revenue at $102.5 million in 2029, $158 million in 2030, and $226.8 million in 2031.

The company also says development of the long-promised road-going S1 continues.

It is additionally working on a next-generation supercar called the S11.
