The Montreal Canadiens made history on Thursday night by scoring four goals in the opening 11:32 of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Carolina Hurricanes.

This offensive outburst set a new franchise record for the fastest four goals from the start of a playoff game on the road.

Fast Start Propels Canadiens

Cole Caufield, Phillip Danault, Alexandre Texier, and Ivan Demidov each found the net for Montreal in the first period.

Seth Jarvis scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes, striking just 33 seconds into the game.

According to team statistics reported by Sportsnet, the Canadiens' four-goal flurry was the second-fastest from the start of any postseason game in franchise history, regardless of venue.

The franchise record remains from Game 1 of the 1958 semifinals, when Montreal scored four goals in 8:55 against the Detroit Red Wings.

Montreal also had a four-goal first period in Game 4 of the 1985 Adams Division semifinals against the Boston Bruins, a series the Canadiens won three games to two.
