South Korean golfer Si Woo Kim carded an 11-under-par 60 in the second round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, following a strong opening round.
Kim recorded six birdies on each nine but missed a historic sub-60 round by bogeying the final hole.
He nearly tied Jim Furyk's decade-old PGA Tour record of 58, according to golfchannel. com.
The Dallas resident missed joining the exclusive club of 15 players with a sub-60 round due to his lone bogey on the 18th hole.
Strong Start and Putting Prowess
Kim opened the $10.3 million tournament with a 7-under 64 in the first round on Wednesday, hitting 92.86% of fairways and 88.9% of greens in regulation while playing alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka.
During that opening round, Kim sank a 22-meter birdie putt on his first hole, the par-4 10th.
He added birdies on the 12th, 14th, and 17th holes before collecting three more birdies and a bogey on his back nine.
"My putting was really on," Kim said. The South Korean noted his ball-striking faltered slightly but his performance on the greens salvaged his score.
"My shots wavered a bit, but I was able to accept it well. It was a good day," Kim added.
Kim credited his putter for navigating the challenging course.
"The greens were trickier than I expected, but my putter came through and helped me put together a good round," he said.
In the opening round, playing partner Brooks Koepka posted an 8-under 63 to sit one stroke off the lead.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler signed for a 5-under 66 to stay within striking distance of back-to-back titles.
American Taylor Moore held the sole first-round lead at 9-under par following a flawless, bogey-free performance featuring nine birdies.
Moore is chasing his second career PGA Tour victory, three years after winning the 2023 Valspar Championship.
Other South Korean players remained in the field after the opening round.
Noh Seung-yul was tied for 32nd place at 4-under, while Im Sung-jae and Kim Joo-hyung both shot 3-under par to share 47th place.
