The Chicago White Sox erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning, tying a franchise record, to defeat the San Francisco Giants 9-4 at Oracle Park on Friday night.

The outburst snapped a recent offensive slump for the South Siders on the road.

Giants starter Trevor McDonald retired the first nine batters he faced before unraveling in the fourth.

Chicago batted around against the right-hander, capitalizing on consecutive hit batsmen, an infield single, and five total hits.

A bases-loaded walk to Chase Meidroth drove in the first run, sparking a sequence where the White Sox scored nine times without a home run.

According to team records, it was the highest run output in a single inning this season and the most in any MLB inning without a homer since 2000.

Munetaka Murakami delivered the key blow, a bases-clearing double down the third-base line for three RBIs.

Infielder Sam Antonacci was hit by pitches twice in the same inning by different Giants pitchers.

White Sox starter Davis Martin earned the win despite trouble in the fifth, allowing three runs after a double by Drew Gilbert, two walks, a wild pitch, and consecutive RBI groundouts by Willy Adames and Luis Arráez.

Manager Will Venable lifted Martin after 5 2/3 innings at 98 pitches, having allowed a fourth run in the sixth.

Martin finished with seven strikeouts and two walks, pushing his ERA above 2.00.

Relievers Tyler Davis, Brandon Eisert, and Trevor Richards combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings to preserve the lead.

The series continues Saturday at 3:05 p. m.

CDT, with right-hander Erick Fedde scheduled to start for Chicago.
