Mohamed Salah inspired Egypt to a historic 3-1 comeback victory over New Zealand, securing the Pharaohs' first-ever World Cup win and moving them to the top of Group G.
The victory significantly strengthens Egypt's chances of advancing to the knockout stage after they previously drew 1-1 with Belgium in their tournament opener.
Egypt entered the match as heavy favorites, with Salah and Omar Marmoush leading the attack before a passionate crowd at BC Place.
However, defensive lapses cost them early when New Zealand defender Finn Surman headed home a corner kick from Tim Payne in the 15th minute.
Second-Half Comeback
The equalizer arrived in the 58th minute when Mostafa Ziko connected cleanly with Mohamed Hany's cross to head the ball into the net.
Nine minutes later, Ziko linked up with Salah in a rapid one-two sequence before the Egypt captain curled a powerful left-footed strike home.
Trezeguet sealed the victory by converting a third goal with an impressive header from Salah's outswinging corner delivery.
Egypt now lead Group G with four points from two matches, while New Zealand sit at the bottom with one point after their initial 2-2 draw against Iran.
