David Alonso secured a thrilling victory in the Moto2 race at the TT Circuit Assen on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
The CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider won after an intense final-lap battle against Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius.
Race Weekend Highlights
Alonso had shown strong pace during Friday's free practice.
He clocked a leading time of 1 minute and 36.154 seconds, finishing just nine thousandths of a second ahead of Gonzalez.
Dutch riders Collin Veijer and Zonta van den Goorbergh finished in the points. Veijer secured 11th place, while van den Goorbergh took 15th.
In the preceding Moto3 race, Maximo Quiles claimed victory.
Alonso commented on the challenging conditions.
“It has been complicated to manage, but I have known how to read the track in these conditions.
The high temperatures cause the engine to run less, and that makes you lose a few tenths on the straight.
In addition, there was also less grip and it was difficult to trust the rear tire.”
He emphasized the need to adapt. “You have to try to give your maximum in every situation.
Tomorrow morning everything will look very nice, but in qualifying everything will change quite a bit.
First I want to work on the pace and on the high-speed direction changes: they are key to making a good lap and I want to be more consistent in that.”
Alonso also discussed his strategy for the afternoon. “In the afternoon we will have to put ourselves in high-temperature mode to survive.
I will have to stay in the points where I am strong and, in the others, try to lose as little as possible.
If I get the pole in Assen, it will be a great joy, because it is not the best circuit for me, but, if I don't achieve it, I will try to be as high as possible because it will give me strength for the race.”
Off the track, the ANWB roadside assistance deployment managed traffic and technical problems for traveling spectators. They set up support vehicles and motorcycles behind the main grandstand.
“Think for example of flat tires, lost keys, a chain coming off, or broken lights,” said an unnamed ANWB employee.
Local campsites reported managing overnight weather conditions without major issues.
“It was a bit restless, but in the end I just slept, you know,” said Sebastiaan, owner of TT Camping De Veteraan.
Other nearby campgrounds experienced minor damage to temporary structures due to rain and thunderstorms. Guests remained positive.
“Everything is still standing, we had no problems. A bit of rain and thunder.
Oh well, it provided some cooling,” said an unnamed guest at TT Camping De Haar.
Media logistics around the venue required community assistance after equipment vehicles encountered technical difficulties before the events.
